Splashtop is not FIPS certified but Splashtop servers support FIPS-validated cryptographic modules.
Splashtop uses the FIPS-validated/certified OpenSSL module. Below you can find out how to enable it on our endpoints.
Requirements:
- Splashtop Streamer / SOS app 3.3.2.0 or later
- Splashtop Business app 3.3.2.0 or later
Windows
Business app (local computer):
- Open the registry editor and go to the following path:
Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Splashtop Inc.\Splashtop Remote Client for STB\EnableFIPS - Right-click into an empty area and select New > DWORD (32-bit) Value:
- Name the new key EnableFIPS and set the value to 1:
Streamer (remote computer):
- Open the registry editor and go to the following path:
Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Splashtop Inc.\Splashtop Remote Server\EnableFIPS - Right-click into an empty area and select New > DWORD (32-bit) Value:
- Name the new key EnableFIPS and set the value to 1:
SOS app (remote computer, attended access):
Download the Windows FIPS SOS app. It already has FIPS enabled automatically.
macOS
For macOS, you can use a tool to edit plist files such as the free version of "PlistEditPro" to make it easier.
Business app (local computer):
- Navigate to the plist file ~/Library/Preferences/com.splashtop.stb.macosx.plist
- Select the Root key and click on New child:
- Then you name the new key EnableFIPS and make the class Boolean and select YES as the value:
Streamer (remote computer):
- Navigate to the plist file /Users/Shared/SplashtopStreamer/Splashtop-Streamer.plist
- Select the STP key and click on New child:
- Then you name the new key EnableFIPS and make the class Boolean and select YES as the value:
SOS app (remote computer, attended access):
Download the Mac FIPS SOS app. It already has FIPS enabled automatically.
