Disconnect current session from a different device

I would like to see the option to disconnect a session in progress from a device different than the one the session was started on. I have on occasion started a session to one of my servers while art my desk using my Windows computer. I then get called away on a service run elsewhere and i take my iPad with me. While at the service call, i decide i need to remove into the same server as above. Currently all we get is the message about there already being a session in progress, and the only option is "Ok". At this point, give me another button that will allow me to log that session out and connect from where i am now. ***************************************************************************************************************************************

We all know that, yes, you can disconnect the session from the web interface, but that is a pain when you are logged in with the utility and run into the issue.  You have to go out and start a browser, go to thew site, log in, then end the session, pain in the behind!

  • I agree. I come across this problem pretty often. So much so that I have installed VNC just so I can log in to the remote computer and disconnect Splashtop.

  • @all,

This is planned. Though I do not know the exact time table.

  • I encounter this issue quite often also.  It would be great to have the option "force disconnect" existing session.  Please add soon! :)

  • We are running into this same issue on a regular basis.

Please add the ability to disconnect a 2nd session or the ability to have 2 sessions going at the same time.

  • I believe if/when this is implemented it will also solve a lot of the problems when you perform a reboot of a client computer and then can't connect again because it says "currently in another session" when in fact you know it isn't.. you need to refresh your management window in order to connect and even then it sometimes takes a few attempts... very frustrating and time consuming.

  • @Mike,

The case you mentioned is a different one.

Before rebooting a computer during a remote session, please close all the software on the target computer with the streamer installed, then see if the issue you mentioned still happens.

  • ??What case did I mention?  I"m totally in agreement with these others as it would be nice, while in a session and I pick up my tablet and walk away from my desk, to connect to that same computer, having it automatically disconnect from the session I am in, making the new connection priority. What happens now is you get the message "this computer is in another session"

With regards to what was stated in the response above, I'm not sure how practical it is to "close all software on the target computer" when there are quite often things running all the time, not to mention what would that have to do with what we are talking about anyway?  Possibly this thread response is in the wrong place?

  • @Mike,

The original post here is to disconnect an alive remote session from another device running Splashtop Business app.

At your case, there is no remote session alive, the streamer stucks at the in-session state which is not true.
We could reproduce the issue if we remotely reboot a computer with the software such as text editor opened some unsaved contents. So we suggest that you could close (save) the software on the target computer before remotely reboot, then see if the issue still happens.

  • What should happen is you simply get disconnected from the session already in progress.. that would be a lot simpler.

  • @Mike,

Yes we are working on this.

  • my "workaround" for this...is that I also have Streamer on the machine I use to connect to other machines....so from my mobile or tablet, I can remote to that machine, and either "leapfrog" (use the session from there), or end it, to allow me to directly remote from my mobile device.....

  • Any updates on this feature? It's desperately needed!

    Thanks

  • @all,

This is supported if the session is established by v3 Splashtop Business client and v3 streamer. Please you could disconnect a current session from the web portal. Clicking the gear icon at right end side of the computer in session will see the option. (Please see attachment.)

It will take effect within few minutes. Please let me know if there is any question using the feature.

  • This solution is good to know but it would be better if it kicked off the other session instead of going to the Web interface.  Your competitor has this feature and has for years.

  • @Support,

I will forward the feature request to the dev team for further evaluation and research. Thank you.

  • I tried to test this feature on one of my servers and the web interface tells me I need a newer version of Splashtop Streamer.  I told both the streamer on my server and the client on my workstation to check for updates, both tell me they are on the newest version and it still will not let me disconnect a session.

  • @Cxe,

Sorry the latest version of the streamer is not published to the software updater yet, please you could click the deployment link in the deployment package to download the latest version of the streamer which is 3.0.2.1.

  • I get this often, i have to get the client to physically turn off their computer before I can reconnect... that is no professional.

  • I have V3 on all machines and I cannot do a remote disconnect.  This occurs quite often for me and I cannot connect this morning because Splashtop reports it is in session with another machine.  It is not.  Please help, Kevin

  • @Kevin,

It should be another issue that the target computer was actually not in a session. If that is the case, please use the below link to download the beta build of the streamer which will resolve the issue:

  • Great suggestion from Lee337phx, I do this myself fairly often. I didn't know we could disconnect sessions from the web interface also, that's great to know, though I would like to see that option on the Business and Business mobile apps.

I keep a browser tab open on my iPhone with the splashtop management page open for moving computers into the correct group and getting the deployment codes if I cannot otherwise access them. I should be able to use it there to disconnect sessions also, that may or may not prove more convenient than connecting to the system with the active session I need to disconnect.

I've also been leaving TeamViewer running on my client machines so I have another way in when Splashtop hiccups & presents challenges.

  • I keep having the issue where one server says it's in a session when I try to connect, but it's really not. The webterface doesn't report its in a session either. Sometimes I can get in 5-10 mins later, sometimes I cannot at all and have to remotely reboot the server to fix this (after-hours only).

I've tried stopping and starting the streamer service remotely, I see it go offline and come back online but still no go. I even tried to install that beta build just on the server in question and it gave an error when I executed it (sorry, I was frustrated and didn't bother writing it down).

its a real PITA. I'm currently migrating ~250 boxen from LMI (tired of the constant price hikes) and there are some nuances to get used to (I can handle) but I'm a little sad at the lack of robustness in the streamer and client. I'm confident that the product will get better over time, but I can be impatient.

My ability to have a reliable remote session is absolutely critical to my job. I cannot just hop in the car and go onsite...I'm about 3,000 miles from all the machines.

  • @Remotesupport,

    Sorry for the issue.

That is a known issue using the streamer 3.0.2.1. Please help to upgrade the streamer on the culprit computers to 3.0.4.4 which will resolve the issue.

  • and where does one find 3.0.4.4? The streamer was installed from the deployment link 2 weeks ago. The streamer says there are no updates, and they are all set to update on their own.

  • @Remotesupport,

Please use the existed deploy link to download 3.0.4.4 streamer. The link in the deployment package will always download the latest version streamer.

For now we are not pushing the updates at this time until the new silent update feature is ready so that popups do not occur and confuse our customers clients. The silent update feature will be ready soon.

  • Had I known of this issue a couple of months ago, I would have chosen another remote support solution. I never had any issue with teamviewer or logmein. I have to say if this issue is not regulated by my next renewal, I will look for some other solution. I get the Session in progress frequently and it really causes my business to suffer especially when I am trying to help out a client remotely. PLEASE FIX THIS ! I am using the latest version as of FEB 23 2016 BTW.

  • I have had and continue to have this problem.  Please come up with a way to disconnect the session.  It is frequent and problematic for consistent use.  I am using the latest version.

  • @Rickgci2014,

I noticed that on some of your team computers it is still not 3.0.4.5 version of the streamer. Could you please help check if it is 3.0.4.5 streamer on the culprit computers? If it already is 3.0.4.5, please help collect splog.txt at below path on the culprit computers and let me know the timestamp you saw the issue:

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Splashtop\Splashtop Remote\Server\log

I will work with the engineering team to address the issue.

  • @Kevintkoch,

Please upgrade the streamer to 3.0.4.5 then see if the issue still happens. If it still happens please help collect splog.txt at below path on the culprit computers and let me know the timestamp you saw the issue:
