How do I keep Splashtop running so I can access the computer after logoff?

I am finding I need to have the computer logged in for Splashtop to come online.  THis is not very good in a corporate environment.  I wanted to switch users and when I log off the connection drops and then I cannot reconnect because Splashtop client does not show the computer and online.

  • Honestly, this is a huge fail for a business product. There are times when i cannot connect even though the computer is on because of some video issue or it is been idle too long. I have to log in with my back up solution, and once I do, then Splashtop connects. Get it? I still NEED a backup remote access, because ST is not doing it's job. This is not the sort of reliability one needs in a business product. I am appalled this issue has not at least been acknowledged by the developers by now, much less addressed and solved.

  • @Stuff,

Does it mean the the remote connection will drop after idle for some time? Does the issue happen on a particular computer or every target computers you have?

Please also upgrade your Streamer to 2.6.5.10 (http://www.splashtop.com/downloads) to see if it solves the issue.

  • Is there a solution for this issue yet? I have been updating consistently - as soon as a new version is release, but I still have this issue as well.

  • I find it irritating that support asks like they have no idea what we're talking about here. This has to be some of the worst customer service in this category of product. I find myself using team viewer free more often than the splashtop service that I paid for.

No matter what your issue is the moron on the other end of the desk has you waste three days updating and scanning for viruses that you know aren't there. "Hello splash top support, have you tried not having this problem? Perhaps if you just pretend it's not there it will go away. That's what WE do."

  • @Stuff,

The original post here wants the have the remote connection ability to a logged-off computer. I don't think it is the same case you mentioned.

We tried to understand what the issue is and this is what we got for now:

"There are times when i cannot connect even though the computer is on because of some video issue or it is been idle too long."

Please help to provide more info so we could address the issue:
    1. Does it mean if a computer is idle for a long time, it will not be able to establish a remote connection to this computer? When you saw this issue, the computer is online or offline in your computer list?
    2. Does it happen at every computers you have or only on a particular one?
    3. Please let me know the version of the streamer on this culprit computer. Or please let me know the name of the computer having issue.

We will try to root the cause as soon as possible.

  • @Technology,

What version of the streamer do you have on the culprit computer now? Please let me know the name of the computer having issue.

  • EBFC Server, 2.6.5.12. Whenever the server does an OS/other Windows update and restarts in the mniddle of the night, Splashtop shows the computer offline (even though the pc is confirmed online and waiting at log-in screen by personnel onsite) from when the restart begins, until I physically go on site and log back into Windows. Also, when I'm finished with a remote session, and I choose to log out, Splashtop then shows the computer offline once the logout process begins and remains 'offline' until I log back in.

  • When I say logout or login, I'm referring to logging in/out of Windows (in this case Windows Small Business Server 2008).

  • Essentially, it seems that I am forced to leave the server logged in 24/7 to make it accessible - and that only works until the monthly OS updates force a reboot in the middle of the night. When logged out of windows, the computer show offline via the mobile app, desktop pc application, and in my account via web browsers (checked chrome, IE, and safari). The option to 'wake' the computer (even thought it is confirmed online) comes up when selecting the computer, but when selected, the process 'times out' after 5 or more minutes and does not change the status of the computer nor make it accessible.

  • Almost certain this is the same issue with Windows 7 user switching. When switching accounts the video drops out for a fraction of a second. whenever this happens on splash top it drops the connection and brings you back to your main screen. On the remote solutions just simply give you a message about losing video and then almost immediately reconnect. I haven't tested it yet but I bet if you switch resolutions on the host computer, Splashtop will drop the connection. It seems any loss of the video hook on the host computer causes splashtop to disconnect. I cannot possibly be the first person to have login and user switching problems disconnecting, support acts like they've never heard of this issue before. It is consistent and repeatable.

  • @Technology,

Please use the streamer 3.0.0.3 on the culprit computers/servers, this version of streamer runs as a service on your Windows. You could click the deployment link generated before to get the 3.0.0.3 deployment streamer.

If the issue still happens, please help to collect splog.txt at C:\Program Files (x86)\Splashtop\Splashtop Remote\Server\log\ and let me know the timestamp you saw the issue. I will work with the engineering team to address the issue.

  • @Stuff,

If you are using 2.6.5.x version of streamer, it will need to re-establish the remote session when Windows user changed. Please use 3.0.0.3. You could click the deployment link generated before to get the 3.0.0.3 deployment streamer.

You could also refer to https://support-splashtopbusiness.splashtop.com/entries/62163074 for more details.

Changing resolution during remote sessions will not disconnect the remote session.
However, we recommend that you should select the resolution you want to use when establishing a remote session but not during remote sessions so we could draw the display fitting your screen.

  • We will see if that works. That version streamer was not available when we initially had the problem. We were remoting into several computers that required switching accounts often and it was driving my team crazy dropping the connection all the time.

I would like to go back and edit some of the sarcasm out of previous posts. I know you guys are doing your best to help. Frustration  occasionally overcomes some of the guys around here and they leave rude comments. I find some of our comments unprofessional and unhelpful and would like to be able to edit them.

  • @Stuff,

It needs admin account to edit the comment. It is ok, we understand how frustrating it would be when seeing such issue happened.

Please don't hesitate to let me know if you saw the issue again after trying new version of the streamer. I would like to work with you and the engineering team solving the issue.

Thank you in advance for your help!
