Splashtop FIPS Compliance - How do I enable it?

Splashtop is not FIPS certified but Splashtop servers support FIPS-validated cryptographic modules.
Splashtop uses the FIPS-validated/certified OpenSSL module. Below you can find out how to enable it on our endpoints.

Requirements:

  • Splashtop Business app 3.6.2.0 or later
  • Splashtop Streamer V.3.6.2.0 or later

Business app (local computer):

Windows

  1. File > Options> General
  2. Scroll down to the bottom to enable FIPSWinSRC_FIPS_en-us.png

Mac

  1. Splashtop Business > Preferences> General
  2. Scroll down to the bottom to enable FIPSMacSRC_FIPS_en-us.png

Streamer (remote computer):

Create a streamer deployment package to enable FIPS in the deployment package.

If you already have the Streamer installed without FIPS, and you don't want to reinstall the Streamer with FIPS enabled, you can enable it by adding the registry key/ Plist.

Windows

  1. Open the registry editor and go to the following path:
    Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Splashtop Inc.\Splashtop Remote Server\EnableFIPS

  2. Right-click into an empty area and select New > DWORD (32-bit) Value:
    FIPS_WIN_SRS1.png

  3. Name the new key EnableFIPS and set the value to 1:
    FIPS_WIN_SRC2.png

Mac

For macOS, you can use a tool to edit plist files such as the free version of "PlistEditPro" to make it easier.

  1. Navigate to the plist file /Users/Shared/SplashtopStreamer/Splashtop-Streamer.plist

  2. Select the STP key and click on New child:
    FIPS_SRS.png

  3. Then you name the new key EnableFIPS and make the class Boolean and select YES as the value:

SOS app (remote computer, attended access):

Download the Windows FIPS SOS app. It already has FIPS enabled automatically.

Download the Mac FIPS SOS app. It already has FIPS enabled automatically.
