With microphone passthrough, you can redirect your local device's microphone input over a remote session, as if you were speaking into the remote computer's microphone directly. This enables you to join calls over Skype, Teams, Zoom, VoIP, etc. and also use voice dictation or recording software over the remote session.
Microphone Passthrough is available for:
Requirements:
- Local Device: Windows or iOS - Business App v3.4.4.0+ / Mac - Business App 3.4.8.0+
- Remote Computer: Windows 7 or newer - Splashtop Streamer v3.4.4.0+ / Mac - Streamer 3.4.8.4+
Note: For Windows-to-Mac connection, it requires Windows Business app v3.5.0.0+ to work
Instructions - From Windows

Connect to the remote computer

Click the Actions icon in the session toolbar -> Redirect Mic Input.

The remote computer's microphone passthrough will change to the Splashtop Virtual Audio Device.

Click the Actions icon -> Redirect Mic Input to switch between muting and unmuting the microphone. The Actions icon will have a green indicator when unmuted, and red when muted.
Instructions - From Mac
- Connect to the remote Windows computer.
- Click the Actions icon in the session toolbar -> Redirect Mic Input.
- The remote computer's microphone input will change to the Splashtop Virtual Audio Device.
- Click the Actions icon -> Redirect Mic Input to switch between muting and unmuting the microphone. The Actions icon will have a green indicator when unmuted, and red when muted.
Instructions - From iPhone/iPad
- Connect to the remote Windows computer.
- Click the Actions icon in the session toolbar -> Redirect Mic Input.
- The remote computer's microphone input will change to the Splashtop Virtual Audio Device.
- You can check and uncheck the Mic Input option in the session toolbar to switch between muting and unmuting the microphone.
Instructions - From Android device
- Connect to the remote Windows computer.
- Click the Actions icon in the session toolbar -> Redirect Mic Input.
- The remote computer's microphone input will change to the Splashtop Virtual Audio Device.
- You can check and uncheck the Mic Input option in the session toolbar to switch between muting and unmuting the microphone.
What if I don't want my users to redirect microphone input?
The owner of the Splashtop Business team can turn off the mic input feature for the entire team.
Log in to my.splashtop.com with the owner credentials. Go to Management > Settings. From there, you can disable microphone input.
Additional Notes
- Microphone Passthrough is only available during unattended sessions.
- During concurrent sessions, the first session redirecting mic input will occupy the input on the remote computer. In the second session, the mic input redirection function will be greyed out and inaccessible for use.
