TLS 1.0/1.1 Support for RDP

We always prioritize the security of our products. Since TLS 1.0 and 1.1 are no longer considered secure transmission methods by industry, starting from version 1.2.0.0 of the Connector, TLS 1.0 and 1.1 have been disabled by default to ensure more secure connections.

If you encounter the following error with particular error code 0x00020008 while using the Splashtop Business app to connect to an RDP session, it means that your system does not currently support TLS 1.2.

Solution

1. Upgrade your system to support TLS 1.2. This is the recommended method as it will make your connection more secure. Please update your system to the latest updates.

  • Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2: These systems need updates (such as KB 3140245) and registry configurations to support TLS 1.2. Service Pack 1 (SP1) is required for these updates.

  • Windows 8 and Windows Server 2012: Like Windows 7, these systems also need specific updates and registry changes to enable TLS 1.2.

  • Windows 8.1: This version can support TLS 1.2 after installing particular updates. An update scheduled for the third quarter of 2021 ensures TLS 1.2 support.

  • Windows XP and Windows Vista: These older versions do not natively support TLS 1.2 and are generally considered obsolete for secure applications.

2. If your system cannot be upgraded, we have provided the option "Enable TLS 1.0 and 1.1" in RDP Profile in Splashtop Connector versions 1.2.0.4 and above. You can check this option to allow the Connector to work in TLS 1.0 and 1.1 modes.
