Automatic Splashtop streamer updates

Splashtop streamer is the agent software that is installed on the computers that you remotely access.

Automatic, silent updates

If you have at least streamer version or later, the streamer application will automatically and silently update itself, based on a progressive algorithm.  When we release a new update, ~3% of the computers will update to the new version on the first week, ~30% will update to the new version by the 2nd week, and almost 100% will update by the end of the 3rd week.

Note: If a computer is not logged in with an account, the update will not occur until it is logged in when it checks for an update - mainly affects servers.

Manually update

From the web console,

  1. View the computer's Properties (from the Computers tab > gear icon)
  2. If the computer is not updated, you can click the Update button:
  3. The computer will update the next time it comes online and is logged into. If the computer is already online and logged into, it will update on the next heartbeat (about every hour).

From the Splashtop Streamer:

  1. Open the streamer program on the computer
  2. Click on the About tab
  3. Click on "Check for Updates" and follow the steps

  1. Remote into the computer whose streamer you'd like to update.
  2. On that computer, download the latest Splashtop streamer. The easiest place may be There's a "Download Streamer" button in the top-right corner.
  3. Run the installer. That's it!

All of your previous settings will be carried over. Your remote session will disconnect after update starts. It may take a minute or two for the update to complete. After update completes, that computer should be online and remotely accessible again.

Version still not updating automatically to

  • Avatar

@Techguy86, streamer was released on Dec 8, and your streamer should be automatically updated within couple weeks. You could also click check for update button in the streamer to manually update the streamer.

If it still stays with in the following week, or the check for update button doesn't work, please let us know. Thank you.

We are still seeing popups asking to upgrade to from I thought these updtaes were supposed to be silent now?

You're right; streamer update from v3.1.x.x and on should be silent. Let me rule out a few other things first:

    1) Can you make sure the pop-up isn't for the Splashtop Business app? (We just released a new version yesterday.)
Streamer update is silent, but Splashtop Business app is still notification-based.

    2) Did someone click on the streamer's "check for update" button?
When streamer update is initiated through that button, we go through the usual "user confirmation" process, since someone's there and proactively doing it.

Please post a screenshot of the update pop-up that you see.

You're also welcome to file a support ticket if you want to provide the screenshot and details offline. Just mention you're working with me.

I have a bunch that are still showing and the others have the latest
IF this is automatic, how do I invoke this process? I have tried restarting the streamer as well as restarting the computer with no luck

@Mike, we updated the article. The automatic update process is a progressive algorithm, very few are updated in the 1st week and almost all should be updated by the 3rd week of a release.

I had many stuck on that didn't update to

did several via the cmdline and silent update..

however a couple running them remotely over splashtop (normally just execute new download - deployment typically) and it forced the confirm before it was remotely available again.

    A: Didn't automatically update to
B: Manual update via double click new download (deployment) forced confirm before running again.

C: Lots of clients in the 3.1.0.X that are not auto updating at all...

Like we stated, the auto-update process for the streamer is a progressive algorithm, and usually takes 1 to 3 weeks for all your streamers to update. Please wait a bit longer and see if your streamers automatically update.

For the manual update, you should not need to confirm one more time to make it available, can I know what the confirmation is? If there is a screenshot, that would help us to verify the issue easily. You can also go to the streamer / about tab to click Check for update to update the streamer, with this way you don't need to manually download the streamer installer.

If there is still streamer at 3.1.0.x and not update, please help us file a ticket and collect logs, our engineers can check and verify the issue. You can find streamer logs under below path:
    Streamer log: C:\Program Files (x86)\Splashtop\Splashtop Remote\Server\log\*.*
    Crash dump: C:\Program Files (x86)\Splashtop\Splashtop Remote\Server\dump\*.dmp

    doesn't work from 3.1.x.x

    Upgrade from existing interface =
splashtop streamer update failed. Please try again (Error = 0x10000008)

    same error on re-attempt.

Manually ran new downloaded deployment streamer-.exe
and then have to agree to conf - allow user@domain to be able to access this

system - confirmation box before system is remotely available again.

(also get the same message without deploment code)

On the computer you still get update failed error, please help file a ticket and collect logs as I stated.

For the system confirmation box, I would need to know what the box is to advise accordingly. If you can get one again, please help take a screenshot and forward it to us.
