Overview
Device Health provides visibility into the security posture of computers managed through Splashtop.
By evaluating a set of common security best practices, Device Health helps administrators identify potential security risks, prioritize remediation efforts, and maintain security best practices across their managed computers.
The initial release evaluates:
- Operating system version (Windows/Mac)
- Disk encryption status (Windows/Mac)
- Antivirus protection status (Windows)
- Firewall protection status (Windows)
Viewing Device Health Information
Detailed Device Health information is available from the properties page of an individual computer.
This view includes:
- Overall device health status
- Individual health check results
- Health check criteria and rule details
- Available remediation options
Administrators can use this view to investigate specific issues and determine appropriate remediation actions.
Device Health information can also be accessed from other locations within Splashtop.
When a computer requires attention, a Device Health indicator may appear next to the device in the computer list.
Selecting the Device Health icon opens a summary view that displays the overall device health status and individual health check statuses. Details opens the Splashtop web console, where administrators can view devices that require attention and access additional Device Health information.
For supported products, the Splashtop web console includes a Device Health widget that provides an overview of device health across your managed computers.
The dashboard widget includes a breakdown of device health status and can help administrators quickly identify devices that may require attention. To view, go to my.splashtop.com / my.splashtop.eu -> Dashboard.
Selecting a status category opens a filtered view of affected devices.
Note: Dashboard availability may vary depending on your Splashtop subscription and enabled Device Health capabilities.
How Device Health Works
Device Health evaluates managed computers using predefined status indicators and health check criteria. Use the sections below to understand how statuses are calculated, what each check evaluates, and how to resolve warnings.
Device Health evaluates security and configuration information from computers against a set of predefined health checks. Each check is assigned a status based on whether the device meets the required criteria.
The results are displayed in Splashtop, allowing administrators to review both the overall device health status and the results of individual checks.
Depending on the operating system and available system information, each health check will return one of the following statuses:
Health Check Status
| Item Status | Description |
|---|---|
| Passed | The device fully meets the health item's criteria. |
| Failed | The device does not fully meet the health item's criteria. |
| Unknown | The health item check is in progress, failed, or is not supported on this computer. |
Device Health Status
The overall Device Health status is based on the combined results of all applicable health checks for the device.
| Device Status | Description |
|---|---|
| Passed | The device meets all applicable health check requirements. |
| Needs Attention | One or more health checks require attention. |
| Unknown | The checks are in progress, failed, or cannot be performed on this computer. |
Note: Available health checks may vary depending on operating system, platform support, and feature availability.
Each Device Health check returns a status indicating whether the computer meets the requirements for that specific security check. The available health checks may vary depending on your Splashtop subscription and enabled features.
| Health Check | Supported Platforms | Pass Criteria |
|---|---|---|
| Minimum OS Version | Windows, macOS | The operating system is supported by Microsoft or Apple and is not significantly behind current vendor-supported releases. |
| Disk Encryption | Windows, macOS | Full-disk encryption is enabled (BitLocker on Windows or FileVault on macOS). |
| Antivirus Protection | Windows | Antivirus software is installed, enabled, and up to date. Device Health relies on information reported by Windows Security Center. |
| Firewall Protection | Windows | At least one firewall product is enabled and active. This may include Windows Firewall or a supported third-party firewall product. |
Notes:
- Criteria are currently not configurable. Planned enhancements include custom rules and exclusions.
- Device Health regularly evaluates operating system support status and version information based on vendor-provided release information.
- Antivirus status is determined using information reported by Windows Security Center. If antivirus status cannot be obtained or is not supported on the operating system, the check may return an Unknown status.
When a health check returns a warning status, Device Health provides additional information to help administrators understand the issue and determine appropriate next steps.
Depending on the health check and your Splashtop subscription, Device Health may provide:
- Additional details about the failed check
- Links to relevant documentation
- Direct access to remediation workflows
Administrators may also choose to resolve Device Health warnings using their existing endpoint management tools or manual remediation processes.
Managing Device Health Issues with Splashtop AEM
Splashtop Autonomous Endpoint Management (AEM) can help administrators identify, monitor, and remediate certain Device Health issues across multiple devices.
Examples include:
- Deploying operating system updates
- Enforcing Disk Encryption
- Monitoring antivirus status
- Enforcing firewall status

Hiding or Disabling Device Health
Team Owners can choose to either hide Device Health from the Splashtop Business App or disable Device Health entirely for their team.
Hiding Device Health removes Device Health information from the Splashtop Business App interface for the current user. Device Health remains enabled for the team and will still be available in the web console, unless disabled from Team Settings.
To hide Device Health:
- Open the Splashtop Business App.
- Select View.
- Disable Show Device Health.
Team Owners can disable Device Health entirely from Team Settings. Evaluations are no longer performed or displayed in Splashtop.
To disable Device Health:
- Sign in to the Splashtop web console, my.splashtop.com / my.splashtop.eu
- Navigate to Settings.
- Locate the Device Health setting.
- Disable Device Health.
| Option | Recommended When |
|---|---|
| Hide Device Health | You do not want to see Device Health information in the Business App, but want the feature to remain available for the team. |
| Disable Device Health | Your organization does not want to use Device Health and wants to turn off the feature entirely. |
Future Enhancements
We are actively expanding Device Health capabilities to provide greater flexibility and control.
Planned areas of enhancement include:
- Additional health checks to provide broader visibility into endpoint health and security posture
- Expanded platform support and improved feature parity across supported operating systems
- Customizable health check criteria that allow administrators to define requirements based on their organization's security policies
- Device-level exclusions for computers that should be exempt from Device Health evaluations
As Device Health continues to evolve, customer feedback will play an important role in helping us prioritize future enhancements and platform support.
Note: Future functionality and availability are subject to change.
Frequently Asked Questions
Device Health is currently being released through a phased rollout and may not yet be available for all customers.
Feature availability may vary depending on your account, subscription, and rollout status.
As we continue to gather feedback and expand support, Device Health will become available to additional customers.
Device Health evaluates computers running the Splashtop Streamer (the computers being remotely accessed or managed).
It does not evaluate:
- The computer being used to initiate a remote session (Business App)
- Linux, Android, IOS and Chrome devices
No.
Device Health is available independently of Splashtop AEM and can provide visibility into the security posture of managed computers without additional add-ons.
Administrators may choose to address Device Health warnings using Splashtop AEM, third-party management tools, or manual remediation processes.
The available Device Health checks may vary depending on your Splashtop subscription and enabled features.
Some products currently display only Antivirus Protection status, while others provide access to additional Device Health checks.
An Unknown status indicates that Device Health was unable to determine the status of the health check. This may occur when the health check is still in progress, failed due to an error, or the computer does not support the data check.
An Unknown status does not necessarily indicate a problem with the device.
A "Needs Attention" status indicates that the device does not currently meet the requirements for one or more health checks.
Review the affected health check for additional details and recommended remediation steps.
