OS Patch (Computer View)

Introduction

The OS Patch (Computer View) page (previously the Windows Update Management page) allows you to manage operating system updates for both Windows and macOS devices directly from the Computer view.

We currently support Critical, Important, Optional, and Feature updates as well as full system upgrades.

Windows v3.3.2.0 and up View Updates: Windows 7 and newer
Edit Updates: Windows 7 through Windows 8 (Windows 10+ not included)
Windows 10+ cannot use the Windows API to set update policies.
Only Professional or higher editions can modify Group Policy for update control.
Mac v3.7.4.2 and up macOS 13.0.0 and up

 

Instructions

There are Windows and Mac icons that you can switch between to manage either Windows or Mac devices.

Check and Apply OS Updates
  •  Login to the Splashtop web console (Global/EU/OC) and select Software > OS Patch (Computer View). 
  • Select the computers you would like to check, or select all, then click Actions > Check for Updates.

  • Click OK to continue.
  • After scanning, select the computers you would like to update or select all, then click Actions > Apply Updates.
  • On the page that appears, select the updates you would like to apply, and click Next to continue.

  • You will see the options as below:

    • Install Updates:
      • Choose to install the updates immediately after the updates have downloaded, or during a specific date range.
    • Restart Computer: 
      • Choose to restart the computer immediately after the update is installed, or at a certain time after the update is installed.
    • Notify Users:
      • Warn logged-on user before restart computer: You have the option to send a notification to that computer 3-120 minutes before the update reboots the computer if a user is logged in.
      • Let me know by email if the update does not complete: Receive an email by a specific set time if the update does not complete.

 

Change Update Setting

Enhanced Update Control

For Windows streamer version 3.7.2.0 and higher, ticking Enhanced Update Control will ensure correct control of Windows update on Windows 10 and 11 by utilizing GPO (Group Policy).
Supported Editions for Windows update on Windows 10 and 11 by utilizing GPO (Group Policy):

  • Windows Pro Edition
  • Windows Enterprise and Education Editions
  • Windows Server Editions

Update Setting

For Windows and macOS, there are 3 update settings you can pick from: 

  1. Let OS install updates automatically
  2. Download updates but let me choose whether to install them
  3. Check for updates but let me choose whether to download and install them

If you select "Let OS install updates automatically", you can choose one day/every day and what hour to reboot the computer to install pending updates.

For Windows devices, there is also an update to include updates for other Microsoft Products supported by Windows Updates.
