Introduction
Windows Updates Management allows you to view/edit the Windows Updates policy of your Windows computer.
We currently support, Critical, Important, and Optional updates. We do not support Feature updates or full operating system upgrades.
Requirements
- Remote Support Premium or Enterprise (Technician License)
View Windows Updates Policy: Windows XP and newer
Edit Windows Updates Policy: Windows XP through Windows 8 (NOTE: Does NOT include Windows 10+)
NOTE: Windows 10 and newer versions cannot use the Windows API to set the update policy. To change setting, only the Professional or above version can change the Group Policy to control it.
Instructions
Check and Apply Windows Updates
- Login to my.splashtop.com and select Management > Windows Updates.
- Select the computers you would like to check, or select all, then click Actions > Check for Updates.
- Click Continue.
- After scanning, select the computers you would like to update or select all, then click Actions > Apply Updates.
- On the page that appears, select the updates you would like to apply, and you will be given a few options:
- Install Updates:
- Choose to install the updates immediately after the updates have downloaded, or during a specific date range.
- Restart Computer:
- Choose to restart the computer immediately after the update is installed, or at a certain time after the update is installed.
- Notify remote computer XX minutes before reboot:
- You have the option to send a notification to that computer 2-5 minutes before the update reboots the computer if a user is logged in.
- Let me know by email if the update does not complete:
- Receive an email by a specific set time if the update does not complete.

Change Windows Updates Setting
For streamer version 3.7.2.0 and higher, ticking Enhanced Update Control will ensure correct control of Windows update on Windows 10 and 11 by utilizing GPO (Group Policy).
Supported Editions for Windows update on Windows 10 and 11 by utilizing GPO (Group Policy):
- Windows Pro Edition
- Windows Enterprise and Education Editions
- Windows Server Editions
There are 3 update settings you can pick from:
- Install updates automatically
- Download updates but let me choose whether to install them
- Check for updates but let me choose whether to download and install them
If you select "Install Updates Automatically", you can choose one day/every day and what hour to reboot the computer to install pending updates.
There is also an update to include updates for other Microsoft Products supported by Windows Updates.
