How do I customize the default streamer settings for deployment?

Follow

You can customize the default streamer settings that are used when you deploy the streamer out to your users and computers.

Customizing streamer settings is part of the process of creating a streamer deployment package.

When you click on the Create Deployment Package button (web console > Management > Deployment), you will see all of the options you can customize.

When this deployment package (deployable streamer plus 12-digit deployment code) is installed on a computer, the streamer on the computer will default to your specified settings.

Potential uses of deployment package options

  • Create a deployment package for each of your client businesses. Set a computer naming rule so that all of the computers in the same business are automatically named after that business.
  • Turn off auto-launch of streamer, for businesses that prefer to manually start the streamer only when computer support is needed.
  • Hide the streamer tray icon, to prevent end users from tampering with the streamer.
  • Maintain user privacy by not directing sound to the remote device.
  • Enforce additional security measures such as prompting for user permission before connecting, locking the computer upon connecting, or locking the computer after a session ends.
  • Lock streamer setting using Splashtop admin credentials, so the streamer settings will be locked and can only be unlocked by admins on your Splashtop Business team.

    This provides no clarification on the COMPUTER NAMING RULES.  What information do I enter in the field if I select the Custom Name option?

    @Dlevenson,

    Please enter the "custom name" in the filed when selecting Custom Name option. And it will show "custom name" plus "current computer name on that computer" in computer list.

    For example, you have two computers a and b, and you enter "team Splashtop" as custom name, then it will show "team Splashtop - a" and "team Splashtop - b" in your computer list.

    How can I set a security code via the deployable streamer? If I understand it correctly, when I deploy via the deployable streamer, there is no option to access the computer via the security code, and you are required to access it via the windows username/password.. Because of that limitation, I see no use for the deployable streamer as the only people who should be accessing it are those who have the security code.

    @Andrew,

    Security code now can't be set up when creating deployment package.

    Can I customize settings for the deployment package after it has been created? Right now when I try to modify the settings, the cursor turns into a stop symbol.

    @ Andrew.Fowler,

    Sorry the settings of a created deployment package will not be modified again, this is to make sure the deployed streamers are consistent. We currently can't push the changes to streamers which are already installed.

    Note: If you want to make changes to the settings, you can create a new deployment code and re-deploy the streamer, or you can just change the streamer settings in the streamer UI when you remote into the computer.

    Can I hide the connection notification that appears on the controlled computer each time an admin connects ? We have a specific need to connect to kiosk PCs without displaying that notification.

    @License,

    Let me dig in a bit more.

    Is your intent:
    (1) Making sure your Splashtop ID does not show up on this public PC? (Currently the connection notification shows your Splashtop ID.)
    or (2) Making sure the kiosk display is not interrupted by anything like the notification bubble

    For (1), we're thinking about an alternate design so you can pick a custom name to be shown, instead of your Splashtop ID.

    For (2), there are currently no plans to make this possible, for end user privacy and protection.

    Thanks,
    Phil

    "alternate design so you can pick a custom name to be shown, instead of your Splashtop ID" can we show our Company Name instead of the individual users' splashtop id?

    @Techguy86,

    This will be enabled in the same release as remote reboot.

    We'll release new streamers, new Business apps, and turn on some backend changes.

    You'll be able to modify a "display name" associated with a user ID, under Management > Users.

    That "display name" will be used in the connection bubble. So, you can simply use your company name as the "display name" to achieve the desired effect.

    What happened to the timeout option for user acceptance prompt? How do I set that please? If it's been removed, what is the timeout period now, or is it an time unlimited prompt?

    There is a ten-second timer. We don't provide the capability to adjust the timer.

    Thanks,

    Additional comment - we plan to make the timer adjustable and also make the default longer (than 10 seconds). We'll probably add this capability before mid-year.

    Turn off check-for-update, so users do not see the occasional streamer update prompt. (You will decide when updates are necessary and perform them manually.)

    ...there are no settings to "turn off check-for-update" ...

    @Root,

    Sorry about the confusion.

    Above information is old. We've removed the "turn off check-for-update" option after we rolled out silent/automatic update capability for streamer last fall.

    We will update the support article.
