Copy and Paste clipboard

Follow

Splashtop supports text copy/paste via the clipboard.  Currently, the copy/paste functionality supports up to 16KB of text for the clipboard.

Images are not supported for copy/paste across devices.  If you want to transfer an image, best to use the file transfer feature.  How do I transfer files?

    I had a serial number that I was trying to copy from a remote host to my local PC, but even though I "copied" it on the remote end, it did not show up on my local clipboard to paste. I am sure that this was text only, and was only about 15 characters, which should be well under the 16KB limit.

    Sorry, there were some cases where copy/paste did not work. Fixes in 3.1.4.0 client app (purple icon) should resolve these issues. Let us know if you still have a problem.

    I'm having *substantial* problems with the Clipboard, as well as MAJOR problems with all sorts of problems with Shift, Ctrl, Alt, and Windows keys not working following the 3.1.6.0 update.

    Seth,

    Sorry about the issue.

    Does the issue happen over your devices or on a particular device? Can I know the computer name getting the issue? And can you constantly reproduce the issue? I will try to collect more info and work with the development team on the issue.

    Thanks,
    Vans

    I opened a case on the Shift CTRL Alt issue yesterday. It is a major issue with this release. I recommend NOT upgrading to 3.1.6.0.

    The Clipboard cut and paste used to be sporadic but now has stopped working for me completely. I rely on this feature for almost all of my troubleshooting, setup and advanced configuration.

    Patrick,

    I noticed that the streamer on some of your computers is still v3.0.8.3 or older. Can you help update the streamer then try again? We have fixes in newer version the streamer.

    You have to manually update 3.0.8.3 this time, after 3.1.0.0 auto-update is supported. The updated version of the streamer is 3.1.6.0.

    If it still does not work after updating the streamer, please file a ticket, and let us know the computer name getting the issue, we will work with you to collect more info and address the cause.

    Thanks,

    FWIW in my case I was using 3.1.6.0 on both the admin console and the streamer and was totally unable to copy/paste. Admin system was Windows 10; Streamer system Mac OS 10.12.6, both with latest patches.

    Just after I posted I tested it again and it worked fine. Thanks for the heads up I will get the rest of the clients all updated.

    @Patrick,

    Glad to see it works!

    @Seth,

    Just to reconfirm, the case worked using 3.1.4.x or older version of the app and streamer, right?

    Can you also help verify if the issue happens only on this combination of Windows + Mac, or also happens on other devices? If trying to both copy/paste on the remote computer during a remote session, will it work?

    You should already know it, it is the Windows key that works as the CMD key on the remote Mac during a remote session from PC to Mac.

    Thanks,
    Vans

    1) in my Win10x64 Admin with remote/streamer Mac OS 10.12.6 scenario:
    I brought the Mac Streamer version back down to 3.1.4.1 on one of my remote Macs and left the Windows Admin app at 3.1.6.0. The modifier keys work on the remote Mac, but Copy/Paste does not.

    2) Using the same Win10x64 Admin system, with a Win10x64 Streamer remote system, both running 3.1.6.0 of the software, modifier keys and copy/paste seems to work fine in limited testing.

    With all due respect, any additional permutations and combinations you would like to test are all things that can and should be done by the QA team at Splashtop. It's not right to ask us to pay for the service and beta test it for you as well.

    Seth,

    Thanks for the detailed update.

    Can we connect to the Mac, see if we can reproduce the issue then debug? You can open SOS agent (sos.splashtop.com) on the Mac, let us know the access code and keep the Mac on. You can file a ticket with the access code.

    Our team did test the same combinations in-house, but couldn't reproduce the issue. I was trying to collect the info, so we could give it a try again. Unfortunately, we still can't reproduce the issue.

    Thanks,

    Are there any plans to increase the size of the copy and paste clipboard for Splashtop Business? It's an issue of contention with one of my clients.

    @Will,

    What kind of the contents do your clients need to copy/paste via clipboard? Can you share more details so we can evaluate how to handle it best? Thank you!

    @Vans

    A client copies and pastes from excel. He needs a clipboard that can handle 6000 lines and about 20 columns. Is that possible?

    Thanks for the response!

    The client just called me back and said about 3000 rows by 52 columns (GG in excel).

    Will,

    At this time it is still 16KB the clipboard buffer we support. We will note this, and I suggest that you can use the file transfer feature to transfer the file then copy/paste the content as a workaround.

    Thanks,

    I'm experiencing this issue on some machines, but not others. So far, I noticed that for 2 of the machines where copy-and-paste does not work host-to-remote or remote-to-host, both remote machines were Windows XP. Could this be the cause?

    Benjamin,

    We gave it a try in-house with XP computers, can't reproduce the issue, it worked normally.

    What is the XP version you have? SP2 or SP3? And can I know what the contents you try to copy to the clipboard? If copy/paste both at the local or remote side, will it work?

    Thanks,

    Hello Support,

    Is there a way to expand the copy and paste to be greater than 16 kb? Or a formal way to submit this as a feature request/update?

    Thank you

    Cory,

    Can I know what contents you are trying to copy to the clipboard?

    Yes, this would be a feature request, and we would like to know more about the use case. Thank you.

    I am coping text but need to copy more then 16 kb of text. Can the memory be expanded to copy as much as is in the local clipboard?

    For me the copy-paste to/from remote computer doesnt works 90% of time I use Splashtop. Almost all times when I try to copy/paste it just doesnt work but from time to time, without me doing nothing it works.

    I always try both metohds: using the keyboard (ctrl+c / ctrl+v) and using the mouse (right click - copy / paste).

    I have 3.1.9.0 version Business Client on local computer (Windows 10 64bit) and 3.1.8.0 streamer on remote computer (Windows 10 64bit).

    I am unable to use copy/paste in your application. I was successful in using the "paste clipboard as keystrokes" as a work around, but its really not working that well either. Any updates on a fix? We used it all the time in LMI.

    @All, if you are still seeing problems with copy/paste, please make sure you have the latest version of the software. Then reproduce the copy/paste issue and upload logs from both computers.
    1. Business App (purple icon): click on Help->Send debug log
    2. Remote computer (streamer): click on Advanced tab, scroll down, click on Send debug log
    3. Open support ticket with additional details on OS and applications involved in copy/paste, and direction of copy/paste.

    We would also be greatly interested in having the 16k limitation expanded. We have a renaming .bat file script that we're copying from machine to machine, and run into this problem. Our newer versions are running 45k, but the old ones were just over 16k and presented regular issues.
