Session Recording

The screen recording feature introduced in v3.3.0.0 allows you to record your Splashtop remote sessions. The recordings are saved on the local computers (the ones running the Splashtop Business app) and can be used for training or auditing purposes.

In v3.4.2.0, we add session recording as a policy on team settings. You can assign storage path, size limit, and control it to start recording automatically for all your team members. In the team settings under web portal - https://my.splashtop.com/account_info/#team_tab, admin can specify storage path and size limit (0 ~ 40,000MBs, 0 = unlimited) to that path by OS platform, then enable auto session recording by platform. (Note: Remote and SOS team has separate policy settings.)

In app settings, new control options are added for storage path of recording files and size limit to that path.

How It Works Details

  • Audio is not saved in the video at this time, except for Android.
  • To include the cursor in the video, enable Remote Cursor option.
  • Older computers (prior to 2012) may have performance issues with this recording feature.
    - Try changing "Video Rendering Options". (Business app: File->Options->Advanced

  • Recording files will be saved to default path if the specified storage path is inaccessible when app starts screen recording.
  • On Windows Computers, session recordings will be saved as a .webm file that can be opened via the default "Photos" or "Movies & TV" app on the computer.
  • On Mac Computers, session recordings will be saved as a .MP4 file that can be opened via the default "Preview" or "QuickTime Player" app on the computer.
  • In v3.4.6.0, we introduce the new video codec VP9 to replace VP8 in phases. This replacement will help to reduce video file size and FPS drop and improve video quality when encoding high resolution video. (4K, 2K)
(Business App: File->Options->Advanced, then enable "Use advanced encoder")
